 Get to know Miss Tayla.

How has dancing changed your life?

Growing up, dancing was my co-curricular activity/hobby. Now it is my full-time job. It was a natural progression from one to the other. I can pass on my passion for dance and get to see students learn and achieve their goals on a day to day basis.

Who has inspired you the most in your dance career?

Past and present teachers, fellow dancers and students have inspired my dance teaching career. My students are constantly developing and learning. Therefore I need to evolve with them. The students support and encourage me as much as I do them. We are working together to reach a common goal.

Why did you decide to become a Tiny Movers instructor - and what do you love the most about teaching under 5’s?

The under 5’s classes are the most enjoyable to teach. Over time, you get to see their personalities develop and their dance training. Younger students are like sponges; they absorb all of their information. We create a nurturing environment for their confidence, self-esteem and creative expression to grow. There is nothing better than seeing the development of a dancer throughout the years. It makes me proud to be a part of their journey, even if it is in a small way.

How important is it to be a positive role model for younger children?

It is essential to be a positive role model for younger children. It teaches students how to conduct themselves and emphasise the importance of showing respect to others. It encourages them to be the best in dance and general life.

What are your greatest strengths as a dance teacher?

I am compassionate, energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, patient, personable, relatable and reliable.

What is the most memorable moment of teaching so far?

I don’t think I can pinpoint one moment… It is always memorable to see students do well in examinations and perform on stage after long preparation/tireless work. Seeing the joy on their faces is also a highlight.

tinymoversWhat do you think the children love the most about the Tiny Movers dance program?

I believe the students love;

  • Dancing to recognisable music
  • Expressing themselves through movement/storytelling
  • Learning/mastering new skills than going home to show family members
  • Letting their creativity/imagination run wild
  • Using props including fairy wings and instruments

What type of music do you use in the Tiny Movers dance classes?

We use recognisable music and rhymes that the students can creatively respond to for exploration. It is also a combination of classical music and more modern/upbeat tracks.

Do you have a favourite dance genre?

You are learning about music, how to make music and how to listen to music. I enjoy teaching all genres of dance; ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz and tap. But if I were going to take a class myself, I would probably lean towards tap classes. Tap dance teaches rhythm and musicality.

If not a dance teacher, what would you be?

Either a school teacher or a physiotherapist.
